Hello Grizzly Families,

We can’t believe we are already into the last week of September! It feels like it was just yesterday we were welcoming our students back to school in August. We have already had a busy month with field trips, Terry Fox, the Welcome Back Breakfast, and our Meet the Teacher. Thank you to everyone who has contributed or attended these events and made them a success.

Below we have included a few updates/reminders and noted some upcoming important dates. Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns.

Learning Commons Volunteers

The Glamorgan Learning Commons (library) is looking for volunteers. If you enjoy books, a library environment, and have some spare time, please email heheronmykyte@cbe.ab.ca.

School Council

We are very excited to have our first school council meeting on Wednesday, September 27. This meeting will be online only so please use this link to join Glamorgan Council Meeting- September 27- 6:30 pm

Picture Day

Fall picture day is upcoming on October 2, all students should be dressed in their formal uniform for the day. We are also looking for a few volunteers to help out that day to make the process go as smoothly as possible. If you have your volunteer clearance and are interested in helping out, please send an email to Taelor Nixon tbnixon@cbe.ab.ca and identify if you are available in the AM (9:00 am – 12:30 pm), PM (1:00 pm – 3:30 pm) or both.

Volunteer Clearance

At the end of this week we received information regarding the new volunteer clearance process. Please expect an email early this week with information regarding the new changes to the process. These updated changes should also be accessible online through CBE’s public website.

Dates of Significance

invite | National Day for Truth and Reconciliation & Orange Shirt Day Event - Sept. 30

CBE students, staff and their families and friends are invited to join an event being hosted by the City of Calgary in partnership with the Calgary Board of Education and the Calgary Catholic School District. The third annual ceremonial opening is taking place on Sept. 30 from 9-10:30 a.m. at Fort Calgary (750 9th Ave SE). This year's gathering will include a smudge tent, in-person Indigenous speakers and performers, an aerial salute ceremony, and other events. The events will also include an intertribal dance demonstration featuring Indigenous students from the CBE and CCSD. Participants are encouraged to wear orange.

Following the YYC, CBE & CCSD event, all are invited to join the Pokaiks – The Children Commemorative Annual Walk and Gathering 2023. The walk will begin at 11 a.m. at City Hall (15-minute walk from Fort Calgary or 2-minute drive) and continue to Shaw Millenium Park (30-minute walk). The walk will be followed by drumming/dancing, Indigenous community speakers, artisan booths, and food sales.
