The Grizzly Update Oct. 2-6 | Volunteers, School Council, Picture Day, Grizzly Store, Returning Late

Hello Grizzly Families,

Welcome to October! We hope everyone had a fantastic long weekend and that you were able to honour the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation in your own way.

Below we have included a few updates/reminders and noted some upcoming important dates. Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns.

Learning Commons Volunteers

The Glamorgan Learning Commons (library) is looking for volunteers. If you enjoy books, a library environment, and have some spare time, please email heheronmykyte@cbe.ab.ca.

School Council

Thank you to everyone who was able to attend the School Council meeting this past week, we know that one of the most significant ways parents and community members can make a meaningful difference in the lives of our students is through school councils. The immense effort and involvement of our families in our School council helps to nurture and inspire our students to achieve their full potential. Our next council meeting will be held online on October, 25 at 6:30 pm and we would love to see you there!

Picture Day

Fall picture day is upcoming tomorrow on October 2, please ensure that all students should be dressed in their formal uniform for the day. We are also looking for one more volunteer to help out in the afternoon to make the process go as smoothly as possible. If you have your volunteer clearance and are interested in helping out, please send an email to Taelor Nixon at tbnixon@cbe.ab.ca.

The Grizzly Store

  • The School Online Store is now open. Please see the link below. The store will close on Oct 8 and orders will be received at the school approximately 4 weeks later. Items will be distributed to the students when received. Students will be able to wear our Grizzly hoodies, t-shirts and athletic pants on our Grizzly Fridays. We respectfully request Grizzly hats to be worn outside only.

Volunteer Clearance

This evening, information will be sent out to families regarding new updates to our Volunteer Clearance process. We highly encourage everyone who can to complete the process so they can volunteer at school events and activities when they are able to. We are well aware of the vast impact volunteers have on our school community, and appreciate any and all help we can have from our amazing community.

Returning Late After Lunch

We have had a high number of our junior high students (Grade 7-9) returning late after lunch. Some of these instances cannot be avoided, but others are a result of leaving campus and not managing their time, placing their binders in various classrooms instead of their lockers, or spending time chatting with friends instead of heading to class when the bell rings. We know that regardless of the reason, missed instructional time can have a negative impact on a student’s learning, therefore, we are asking parents/guardians of students in Grade 7-9 have a conversation with their children about the importance of returning to class on time, and the impact it has on their learning when they are late. Moving forward, we will also be reaching out to the parents/guardians of children who are chronically late so we can collaboratively problem solve, and create a plan to support each student to improve their attendance. If your child is chronically late for a particular reason (i.e. they are having difficulty with their lock) please reach out and let us know so we can support them immediately.
