Hello Grizzly Families,

We hope you have had an amazing weekend with your families!

Below we have included a few updates/reminders and noted some upcoming important dates. Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns.

Solar Eclipse Preparedness

This Monday, April 8 there will be a solar eclipse. If you didn’t happen to see the News Story shared by CBE on April 2, please check it out here Precautions for the Solar Eclipse on Monday, April 8. As a result of the eclipse, all students will remain inside during the lunch hour. Please pack a lunch for your child, however, if you decide that your child will walk home for lunch on Monday, please discuss with your child not to look at the sun to protect his/her eyes from damage by the solar eclipse

Grade 6 PAT Update

Alberta Education announced last week that the Grade 6 English language arts and literature (ELAL) and mathematics provincial achievement tests will not be administered in the 2023/2024 school year. Alberta Education will instead offer field testing between April and June 2024. Families with children in Grade 6 should have received communication from School Improvement this past week with more information. All other PAT exams will be moving forward as planned.

Athletics

Badminton tryouts continue this week! We had an incredible turnout and thank every student for coming out. As a reminder, students in Grade 6-9 are eligible to tryout for the team, but MUST return a tryout interest form before their tryout begins. Students who do not return their form will not be eligible. These forms can be found in the main office and must be signed by a parent/guardian.

Next Year Planning

As a reminder to all Grade 6-8 families, prior to the break, all students were sent an engagement survey to their Gmail accounts regarding complimentary courses for the upcoming year. The due date for students to complete their survey is this coming Wednesday, April 10, 2024.

If you know your child will not be returning to Glamorgan School next year, please let the office staff know as soon as possible so we are able to plan for next year. Please email glamorgan@cbe.ab.ca with any updates to your child’s enrollment.

Child & Youth Well-Being | Family & Caregiver Series 2023-24

The Calgary Board of Education is inviting all families and caregivers to join in an online series focusing on child and youth well-being. These sessions are hosted in partnership with Alberta Health Services and will explore topics such as vaping, brain development, mental health, and sexual health.

These sessions are offered free of charge and provide information, resources, helplines, and services to support healthy child and youth development. Please see the attached document for more information on these upcoming sessions.
