Happy Friday, Grizzly Families!

It’s been a busy and exciting week at Glamorgan School. Report cards were released on Monday, giving students an opportunity to reflect on their progress and set new goals. On Tuesday, our Grade 7-9 students kicked off a fresh semester with new option courses, bringing new learning opportunities and experiences. And today, as staff engage in a Professional Learning Day, students can enjoy a well-deserved break.

Please see below for some important updates, upcoming dates, and dates of significance.

Winter Sports Day

We’re excited to host our Winter Sports Day on Monday, February 12! Students will participate in a variety of fun outdoor activities, so please ensure they dress for the weather (warm layers, winter boots, gloves, and a toque are recommended). The skate shack will be back and all grade 3 to 9 students will have the option to skate.

  • Grades 1-4: Morning activities
  • Grades 5-9: Afternoon activities

We are looking for parent volunteers to help with supervising elementary groups or assisting at the skate shack (helping with skates and helmets or supervising the ice). If you’re available, please let us know—we appreciate your support in making this event a success!

Thank you for helping us create a fun and active day for our students! If you are interested in volunteering, please use the link below.

Student Attendance Policy for Sporting Events

Students are welcome to attend any Grizzly volleyball games; however, they must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. This policy applies to all sporting events throughout the school year, including basketball, volleyball, badminton, track, and wrestling. We appreciate your support and enthusiasm, but we must ensure that all students arrive with their parents or guardians. Thank you for your cooperation!

Lego Club

As a reminder to all families, a messenger went out earlier this week with the Lego Club Movie permission slip included.  All students are welcome to attend the Glamorgan Lego Movie, but only those with a signed permission slip will be able to receive a small bag of Lego candy. We sincerely thank Glamorgan School Council for the purchase of these candies. The movie will be shown in Room 1 this year, according to the schedule that is included in the permission slip

Next Year – First Day of Classes is Tuesday Sept. 2, 2025

We wanted to send out an early reminder about the importance of all students being at school on the first day back next year. Due to the number of students not returning in time from summer break over the last three years, we are requiring that all Grade 1-9 students are here on the first day of classes on Tuesday Sept. 2, 2025.  Students not in attendance may be removed from the TLC program and be required to attend their community school when they return to school late from holidays.

Rationale for removal

  • As an alternative program, our last day to confirm our school population is September 5, 2025 and a decreased enrolment throughout the remainder of the month has a significant impact on school funding and an increased possibility of having to remove staff
  • We have limited time to invite new students who would love to come to Glamorgan
  • Allow the opportunity for families who have children on our waitlist to get into the TLC program
  • Calgary Board of Education requires that all students registered in alternative programs must be in attendance prior to September 5, 2025 to count towards enrollment

For any family who knows they will not be able to make it for the first day of classes, you must let school administration know and confirm return date. Due to the strict rules with school funding through Alberta Education, we may require proof of travel. Please contact glamorgan@cbe.ab.ca with the subject line heading: Returning Late 2025-2026 or Planning on Leaving Glamorgan School to ensure that your child will be able to attend Glamorgan next year.

Additionally, if you know you are leaving Glamorgan and going to a new school starting next year, please contact the office right away.  This will help our office register any new students on our waitlist, as well as help our feeder schools, so they are prepared for student population and funding numbers heading into next year.

Many thanks for your support,

Fred Mattersdorfer

Principal – Glamorgan
